The River That Sings

from Until We Meet Again by Kaz Hawkins

/

about

A tribute to the memory of a young girl called Te La Nay from the Yuchi Indian tribe who was taken from her home in Alabama to the plantations in Oklahoma. She was taken in what was called Trail of Tears which was about ethnic cleansing. I was introduced to Tom Hendrix who was Te Lah Nay's descendant and he spent his life building a wall to remember her journey to return home to the Tennessee River where the Yuchi Indians believed a maidan sang to them from the river. I promised Tom before he died that I would continue to tell her story through my own music. He blessed me in the prayer circle with the Indian name ‘Sharppa’ which meant Bright Path
